In this 7 Part series, we're taking a look at the Top 7 Reasons People Don't Meditate. Reason #3 is so big, it takes up 2 parts!

Reason #3; "I Start To Meditate, But Fall Asleep:"

This is also common with a lot of people, even more advanced meditation practitioners. Would you like to know why? Because there are a lot of parallels between meditation and falling asleep.

When you rest your head on your pillow, there’s typically a period in which your thoughts return to the events of the day, or thinking about things you’re doing or need to do and just random thoughts and feelings. What’s happening is that your mind is "dumping" stuff that can keep you awake (and sometimes doesn’t. Then you toss and turn for a while, but that’s another chapter). This is not unlike the chatter that fills our heads during the day.

This is also part of the process of shifting from the outer world, navigated primarily through thought, and the inner world, navigated primarily through imagery.

The body communicates through emotions. That’s it’s modus operandi. The persona communicates through thoughts. The spirit communicates through mental image pictures. So, shifting from the outer world to the inner world is a process of turning from thoughts to turning to imagery (dreams). Spirit never sleeps. Spirit will rest, but does not sleep. The body sleeps as a way of allowing you out of the body so it can release, rejuvenate and refresh itself.

As we rest our heads and drift off, leaving our thoughts behind, we’re also calling back our attention and energy from where we’ve left it. There are times during this process that we call back a big chuck and the body “jumps”, we recall something important (“did I turn all the lights off and lock the doors?”), maybe have an inspiration or an “AHA!” moment. Suddenly, we’re wide awake. We settle back down and drift off. The process continues, shifting from our thoughts, releasing energy overload and climb out to the astral, where imagery takes over.

You see? Meditation is so simple, you can do it in your sleep!!

The body is so used to this that when you start to meditate, the body thinks it’s time to go to sleep. When this happens, avoid the temptation to trash yourself, realize what’s going on (Oh. I must’ve gone out to the astral!), take a few deep breaths and reconnect with yourself.

Some levels of clearing your space can be very energetic and sometimes, it’s easier to do when you’re out of the body. This is a big benefit of 20 minute “power naps”. They’re very refreshing!
